Pennsylvania Immigration Cultural Conference

The PICC came about as the result of the hard work of students at Philadelphia’s Central High School. The conference brings high school students from around the city to participate in a day of learning and understanding. It is the conference’s second year and was held at Temple University. Focusing on issues affecting the Asian/Asian-American and Latino/Latino-American, speakers from as far away as Detroit ran workshops to help make these issues aware to today’s so some day solve these issues afflicting our communities. To cap the day off, there were also various cultural performances from many different cultures such as salsa, mamba, Korean folk music, Vietnamese cultural dance, and many others just to name a few. The brothers of DXPsi, though not in high school anymore, lent a helping hand to the PICC. They served as ushers and guides to help conference run as smoothly as possible. We escorted students from the subway stations to Gladfelter Hall where the conference was held, gave directions to lost students, guided students to student center for lunch, and helped clean up after conference was over. Even though this conference was aimed at high school students, the brothers gained a new insight while sitting in on the workshops. Whether college or high school students, we are the future leaders in our community and this conference was another step forward towards making the today’s world a better place.

Social Justice Retreat

A few of our brothers woke up for the 8:30 am Social Justice Retreat on Saturday, March 30th. These brothers included Paul ‘Redline’ Tran, Alex ‘Surge’ Buligon, and Phil ‘Rexxar’ Lee. We took a bus up to Ambler Campus with Tchet Dormant, the Director for Student Services of the Office of Multicultural Affairs, along with about a dozen other Temple student leaders. The whole day dealt with racial issues and we openly discussed our own opinions and experiences with race. The retreat did not just revolve around race however, other matters such as domestic dominance, sexism, ageism, and various social problems were discussed.

Mr. Dorman is in the process of developing a program to unite all the organizations of Temple University that will allow them to discuss ideas and share each other’s interests. He asked Delta Chi Psi Fraternity Incorporated to be one of the active leaders in this new program. The goal of this organization is to build more unity within the Temple Campus particularly with students who vary in different cultures and backgrounds. Temple University was rated the 2nd most diverse school in the nation, yet there is no unity amongst the students and Tchet is striving to change this within the University’s community. We hope to become a part of this great movement and one day be able to spread our knowledge and beliefs as an Asian-Interest Fraternity.
